Game of Thrones the TV series, makes for a riveting watch filled with suspense and drama. Although a bit gory for my liking I thoroughly enjoy watching it. The different story-lines are so cleverly intertwined that you cannot help but choose a side in the fight for the Iron Throne. Personally I’m feeling team Stark.

The Game of Thrones TV series is based on a series of books called A Song of Ice and Fire written by George R. R. Martin. There are seven books in the series, two still forthcoming, with each season of the TV series being based on one of the books. Which means there will hopefully be at least seven TV series. Season one was shown on MNet during 2011 and surprisingly Season two had a global premier with South Africa being part of the global launch. For once we got to see a TV series at the same time as the rest of the World!

The books are written with an intense focus on the characters and their surroundings and proves to be so descriptive that it is easy to envision the fantasy world of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros with great accuracy. For lovers of the TV series I would highly recommend the books as they provide an incredible reading experience, although not light read as you need to stay focussed to stay on track with the different story-lines.
